What You Need To Know To Begin Tomato GrowingThis is a featured page

These days, if you look around your community you will find a lot of homegrown gardens full of plump tasty looking vegetables. More often than not, in the warm summer days people are growing their own carrots, broccoli, peas, cauliflower, yellow and green beans, and even growing tomatoes.
Those who have kept a garden for many years are quite knowledgeable about how to grow a variety of vegetables though some might be interested in learning what there is to know about growing your own tomatoes. It's really important not to begin before the weather is warm, sunny and bright since your tomatoes won't survive cold, wintry weather. Take a trip to your local gardening retail store to get a tomato plant. There is a large variety to choose from, but don't worry the friendly staff at the store will be able to offer you educational advice on which plant will best suit your needs.
Some people are very adventurous, and therefore would enjoy growing their own tomato plant for planting. Though easy to do it is something that will take some time. Gently cut a tomato open and carefully remove the seeds and place them into a cup or container and add some water. Next cover the seeds with a piece of plastic wrap that has holes poked into for ventilation. Place the seeds in an area of your home theater. It's a lot of sun and warm, such as the windowsill. Every once in a while, usually every 2 to 3 days take the time to gently stir the mixture allowing it the time it needs to ferment. The top of it will probably look dirty and gross, but this is what happens. So just carefully remove the film as you see it being created. Once the prepared the seeds will go into a mesh bag to be rinsed thoroughly. Then you will need to lay them out onto a paper plate or place them into a paper envelope. Give them time to dry this usually takes them about a week or so.
Whether or not you decide to grow your own or buy them from the store once you have the seeds you want there are a few necessities you will need to pick up to assist you in your project. A pair of gardener's gloves allows you to safely handle your gardening chores, soil, fertilizer, trowels, compost markers, shovels, egg shells, garden stakes, and of course, you will need a water hose.
So now that you have all the tools you need to begin the first step you want to take is to choose a good bright, sunny warm spot where you can dig up a large deep space for your plant. Make sure to leave between each plant. So they have enough room to grow. Once you've got the hole take a handful of crushed eggshells and dump them in the hole to allow the plant to take the calcium from the shells
Diseases can be a concern for tomatoes so it critical that you take the time to clean the area around your plant when you see debris and garbage collecting in the area. There are actually some varieties that are less prone to disease. You can ask the staff at your local store to help you identify these if this is really a concern for you.
In about two weeks you will start to notice your tomato plant growing and they won't take long. From that point, before you will see ripe tomatoes. They're quite easy, identified when they're ready to be picked as they will be firm and soft to the touch and the color will be glossy and even.
Many people enjoy juicy fresh taste of tomatoes, but most would be surprised to know that the plant it grows from is quite poisonous so always considered this and never eat more than the actual tomato itself.
